Visier Data Uncovers Employee Resignations are on the Rise

Visier, the globally recognized leader in people analytics and planning, today unveiled new data findings that signal a significant shift in employee behavior leading into the summer months. According to the data, not even a pandemic could keep people from leaving, and for a major chunk of the market, resignations have actually increased. 

Dubbed the “Resignation Wave,” the Visier study found that during the summer months, organizations have consistently seen year-high resignation rates peaking between the months of June to September. Even during the height of the pandemic in 2020, employees continued to shift job roles during the same periods. Current 2021 data shows the resignation trend is rising earlier than previous years, indicating there has been a build-up of overdue resignations, signaling a higher than average year for resignations across all industries.

Resignations are particularly acute for technology and healthcare, with the increased stress of burnout and overtime impacting those sectors over the past year and a half.

Visier’s data is validated by the most recent BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary, which  for the month of April showed a 20 year high in quit rates.

This data is inline with previous Visier reports which indicated women in the workforce are exiting at alarming rates, with 30% of women considering leaving the workforce, and over 40% of female managers considering an exit.

“Organizations need to take a hard look at their retention strategies coming out of last year,” said Ian Cook, VP People Analytics at Visier. “Employers may have an unfounded belief that the pandemic caused employees to reconsider leaving their jobs due to market uncertainty, which is clearly not the case. If employees were comfortable exiting during the height of the pandemic, this year could prove to be a year of unprecedented change.”
